The orange sofa gets the attention. But if you want a Friends-inspired room that people actually enjoy sitting in, start with the arrangement: comfortable seats, somewhere to put a drink and a route through the room that does not require everyone to stand up.
There is a useful distinction between a screen prop and something with a similar mood. Propstore’s archived 2019 Central Perk couch lot describes a Warner Bros.-authorised reproduction, not the original filming sofa. It lists orange velvet upholstery and a footprint approximately 229 cm wide by 114.5 cm deep. Those are the reproduction’s dimensions—not a verified measurement of every sofa used on screen.
Borrow the sociable layout, not the entire set
A big sofa is optional. Try your existing seating first, with chairs angled towards one another and a useful surface within reach. Choose furniture for the room and the people using it; the television reference should be the starting point, not the specification.
Why copying the sofa’s size can go wrong
Width is only half the decision. A deep sofa can consume the walking route in a narrow living room, and generous outside dimensions do not necessarily mean the seat depth will suit you. Mark the full footprint, including the arms, before considering colour or upholstery.
Use our compact two-seater guide for the seating plan and delivery-access checklist before ordering. A sofa that fits the wall can still fail at a stair turn.
The coffee table is the practical centre of the idea
A low table gives a seating group a purpose beyond facing a television. Its surface needs to be reachable, but it must not trap knees or block the easiest exit. Tape out the proposed table and sit down, stand up and walk around it before committing.

The VASAGLE UKLCT200B01 coffee table is a contemporary wood-effect alternative with an open lower shelf. Compare its current dimensions with your seating and measure the shelf opening if you want to store a basket. It is not a replica, and we have not tested it hands-on.

When a side table makes more sense
If a central table blocks the route, use a smaller surface beside a seat. Nesting tables can provide occasional extra space, but check where each piece goes when separated—not just the nested footprint. Our coffee-table size and spacing guide helps compare the alternatives.
Use colour without replacing everything
If the orange is what you love, try it in a removable cushion or throw before buying a sofa around it. Check fabric care instructions and look at samples in your own light. A photograph is not a dependable colour match. There is no need to add matching café signs or memorabilia unless those are things you genuinely want to live with.
For a pre-owned statement piece, inspect upholstery, frame condition and collection arrangements in person where possible. Ask the seller specific questions rather than assuming a vintage appearance means a vintage construction.
The final test: can everyone use the corner?
Put a mug on the proposed surface. Can each person reach it comfortably? Can somebody leave without another person moving? Does the main doorway stay clear? If not, reduce the furniture before adding decoration. A welcoming conversation corner is a better result than a convincing set that nobody wants to use.
